| Navin
believes that in advising and representing his clients, he must
serve as a bridge between the realities of commercial businesses,
the practical needs of his clients and the intricacies of the
legal system.
To
this end, he is a persistently strong and determined advocate
to his clients, but understands the need for a sensitive and practical
understanding of the larger landscape in providing his clients
with the best solutions.
Commercial
Litigation, Corporate Law and Family Law are Navin's primary areas
of practice. The following is a cross-section of the cases in
which Navin has advised and acted.
| In
the area of Commercial Litigation: |
| • |
The
successful defence of a client against an accusation brought
by his former employer in a Breach of Restraint of Trade
and Non-competition Clauses case. |
| • |
The
recovery of monies owed to a landlord, the management corporation
of a condominium, by a tenant in a tenancy dispute. |
| • |
Representation
of an airconditioning business in a claim against it for
defective installation works and subsequently, a satisfactory
settlement. |
| • |
Persuaded
the Court, on appeal, to deny an application for a summary
judgement against a client, a systems furniture manufacturer,
who was sued by a supplier for non-payment of monies. A
summary judgement would have denied the client an opportunity
to present his case. This was avoided and the matter was
eventually settled out-of-court. |
| In
the area of Corporate Law: |
| • |
Drafting
joint-venture agreements for local companies branching out
to China. |
| • |
Advising
the minority shareholder in a large Malaysian oil company
who was locked in a shareholder dispute with the majority
partner. |
| • |
Reviewing
a Master Franshisee and Sub-Franchisee Agreement, and advising
on the applicability of franchise to Singapore. |
| • |
Reviewing
agreements and documents for the international sale and
purchase of a private yacht. |
| In
the area of Family Law: |
| • |
The
scope of work typically includes uncontested divorces, the
division of assets, custody, mediation and maintenance. |
