| With
the globalization of Singapore and the increased awareness of
Intellectual Property Rights, Laurel’s main area of practice
involves advising on all aspects of Intellectual Property Law
in Singapore comprising of Trade Marks, Patents, Designs, Copyright
and Domain name registration.
She assists her clients with the co-ordination and management
of their Intellectual Property portfolios and the protection of
their brand names and IP assets in Singapore and in all key marketplaces
across the globe.
Her practice includes prosecuting trade mark applications (locally
and worldwide) through direct filing in the designated countries
or via the Madrid Protocol System of registration, trade mark
opposition, cancellation and rectification actions, post registration
renewals and also undertake Intellectual Property infringement
actions, passing off, breach of confidence, trade secrets and
unfair competition actions.
She handles design registrations for her clients in over 120 countries
worldwide and also helps them to defend their registered designs
in these jurisdictions.
She advises on the patentability of inventions, patent protection
and registration in Singapore under the Patent Co-operation Treaty
System of Registration and direct registration in Non-PCT countries.
She handles pre- and post-registration transfers and assignments.
She monitors and maintains the validity of her clients registered
patents worldwide.
She also advises on a broad range of commercial contracts including
transactions which involve IP issues and cross border transactions,
such as Joint Ventures, Franchising, Licensing, Transfer of Technology,
exploitation and protection of IP, Web-site and portal development
and hosting agreements, Telecommunications services, Consultancy
services and other End-User Service Level agreements.

Laurel is a Singapore Registered Patent Agent and member of the
Asian Patent Attorneys' Association (Singapore Group) - APAA and
also part of the International Trademark Association (Singapore)
- INTA.

Her arrival at TIC coincides with the increased knowledge of the
need to protect Intellectual Property Rights in Singapore and
worldwide.

Area of Practice
Laurel started her career in Civil and Commercial Litigation and
moved on to do mainly Intellectual Property registrations and
related enforcement actions. Her main area of practice includes
the prosecution of trade marks, designs and patents registration
in Singapore and worldwide. She has assisted in various types
of IP infringement prosecutions, brand name disputes, passing
off actions, breach of Confidential Information and anti-competition
disputes and other IP related actions and mediation.

With the growing value and importance of Intellectual Property
Rights in Asia and worldwide, Laurel advises a myriad of International
clients from a broad spectrum of industries such as Aerospace;

resorts; Marketing and Advertising; Personal Care and Cosmetics;

A Growing IP Department at TIC
Laurel read Law and Politics at the University of Keele (UK) where
she was conferred a Joint Honours Degree, Bachelor of ScScience
with subsidiaries in Economics and Chemistry. She was called to
the English Bar and is a Barrister-at-Law, Lincoln's Inn. She
did her Master's Degree at Queen's University (UK, Belfast) where
she was conferred an LLM in Computers and Law. She became an Advocate
and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1999 and was
an Associate Director of the Intellectual Property Department
of a local Law Corporation until March 2007.
She joined TIC as their Head of the Intellectual Property Department
in April 2007 and will spearhead the increasing growth of the
IP work that the Firm handles for its local and International
clientele.
