Alvin Lim obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the National University of Singapore in 1989 and his Master of Laws degree from the University of Queensland in 2003. He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1990.

Alvin Lim has been in active legal practice for more than 20 years. He has served as a Legal Service Officer in the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, and has practiced in both large and small law firms in Singapore. He has also worked as an in-house corporate counsel, and has headed the legal departments of major multinational companies. He has wide-ranging legal experience which includes high-level litigation and cross-border commercial transactions.
